Abstract: The paper deals with a dynamical system egin{align*} &u_{tt}-Delta u=0, qquad (x,t) in {mathbb R}^3 imes (-infty,0) \ &u mid_{|x|<-t} =0 , qquad t<0\ &lim_{s o infty} su((s+ au)omega,-s)=f( au,omega), qquad ( au,omega) in [0,infty) imes S^2,, end{align*} where u=uf(x,t) is a solution ({it wave}), fincalF:=L2left([0,infty);L2left(S2ight)ight) is a {it control}. For the reachable sets calUxi:=uf(cdot,xi),|,,fincalF,,(xigeqslant0), the embedding calUxisubsetcalHxi:=yinL2(mathbbR3),|,,,y||x|<xi=0 holds, whereas the subspaces calDxi:=calHxiominuscalUxi of unreachable ({it unobservable}) states are nonzero for xi>0. There was a conjecture motivated by some geometrical optics arguments that the elements of calDxi are Cinfty-smooth with respect to |x|. We provide rather unexpected counterexamples of hincalDxi with msing,supp,hsubsetxinmathbbR3|,,|x|=xi0>xi.
