Abstract: A polynomial is real-rooted if all of its roots are real. For every polynomial , the Hermite-Sylvester theorem associates a quadratic form such that is real-rooted if and only if is positive semidefinite. In this note, for every positive integer , an -adic form is constructed such that is real-rooted if and only if is positive semidefinite for some if and only if is positive semidefinite for all .
