Abstract: Jakhar shown that for f(x)=anxn+an1xn1+cdot+a0 (a0eq0) is a polynomial with rational coefficients, if there exists a prime integer p satisfying up(an)=0 and nup(ai)ge(ni)up(a0)>0 for every 0leilen1, then f(x) has at most gcd(up(a0),n) irreducible factors over the field mathbbQ of rational numbers and each irreducible factor has degree at least n/gcd(up(a0),n). The goal of this paper is to generalize this criterion in the following context: Let (K,u) be a rank one discrete valued field, Ru its valuation ring and mathbbFu its residue field. Assume that f(x)=phin(x)+an1(x)phin1(x)+cdot+a0(x)inRu[x], with for every i=0,dots,n1, ai(x)inRu[x], and a0(x)eq0 for some monic polynomial phiinRu[x] with overlinephi is irreducible in mathbbFu[x]. If for every 0leilen1, nup(ai)ge(ni)up(a0)>0,} then f(x) has at most gcd(up(a0(x)),n) irreducible factors over the field Kh and so over K and each irreducible factor has degree at least n/gcd(up(a0),n), where Kh is the henselization of (K,u).
