Abstract: Given a Fell bundle mathcalB=BttinG over a LCH group and a closed subgroup HsubsetG, we show that all the *-representations of mathcalBH:=BttinH can be induced to *-representations of mathcalB by means of Fell's induction process; which we describe as induction via a *-homomorphism qHmathcalBcolonC*(mathcalB)omathbbB(XC*(mathcalBH)). The quotients CH*(mathcalB):=qHmathcalB(C*(mathcalB)) are intermediate to C*(mathcalB)=CG*(mathcalB) and Cr*(mathcalB)=Ce*(mathcalB) because every inclusion of subgroups HsubsetKsubsetG gives a unique quotient map qHKmathcalBcolonCK*(mathcalB)oCH*(mathcalB) such that qHKmathcalBcircqKmathcalB=qHmathcalB. All along the article we try to find conditions on mathcalB, G,H and K (e.g. saturation, nuclearity or weak containment) that imply qHKmathcalB is faithful. One of our main tools is a blend of Fell's absorption principle (for saturated bundles) and a result of Exel and Ng for reduced cross sectional C*-algebras. We also show that given an imprimitivity system langleT,Pangle for mathcalB over G/H, if H is open or has open normalizer in G, then T is weakly contained in a *-representation induced from mathcalBH (even if mathcalB is not saturated). Given normal and closed subgroups of G, HsubsetK, we construct a Fell bundle mathcalC over G/K such that Cr*(mathcalC)=CH*(mathcalB). We show that qHmathcalB is faithful if and only if both qemathcalC and qHmathcalBK are.
