Abstract: A finitely generated group G is termed parafree if it is residually nilpotent and it has the same isomorphism types of nilpotent quotients as some free group. The two main results of this MSc. Thesis characterise the parafreeness of two constructions, namely amalgamated products with cyclic amalgams and cyclic HNN extensions.
Free products of groups, free products with amalgamation, Higman-Neumann-Neumann extensions, and generalizations (20E06) Limits, profinite groups (20E18) Residual properties and generalizations; residually finite groups (20E26) Homological methods in group theory (20J05) Infinite-dimensional and general division rings (16K40) Group rings of infinite groups and their modules (group-theoretic aspects) (20C07)
