Abstract: Let varphicolonLambdaoGamma be a regular unbranched cover of simplicial graphs without isolated vertices. Then, if f is an automorphism of AGamma, the right-angled Artin-Tits group associated to Gamma, we first study whether there exists an automorphism F of ALambda which is a lift of f. We then prove that the group operatornameLAut(varphi) consisting of all the liftable automorphisms of AGamma is finitely generated by the set of elementary automorphisms admitting a lift. Finally, we show that the group operatornameFDeck(varphi) of all the lifts of the identity is commensurable to a subgroup of the Torelli group operatornameIALambda and deduce from this the existence of a short exact sequence which is reminiscent of results from the Birman-Hilden theory for surfaces.
