Abstract: Let (mathcalL,mathfrakg) be a line bundle over a closed Riemann surface (Sigma,g), Gamma(mathcalL) be the set of all smooth sections, and mathcalD:Gamma(mathcalL)ightarrowTastSigmaotimesGamma(mathcalL) be a connection independent of the bundle metric mathfrakg, where TastSigma is the cotangent bundle. Suppose that there exists a global unit frame zeta on Gamma(mathcalL). Precisely for any sigmainGamma(mathcalL), there exists a unique smooth function u:SigmaightarrowmathbbR such that sigma=uzeta with |zeta|equiv1 on Sigma. For any real number ho, we define a functional mathcalJho:W1,2(Sigma,mathcalL)ightarrowmathbbR by mathcal{J}_ ho(sigma)=frac{1}{2}int_Sigma|mathcal{D} sigma|^2dv_g+frac{ ho} {|Sigma|}int_Sigmalanglesigma,zeta angle dv_g- hologint_Sigma h e^{langlesigma,zeta angle}dv_g, where W1,2(Sigma,mathcalL) is a completion of Gamma(mathcalL) under the usual Sobolev norm, |Sigma| is the area of (Sigma,g), h:SigmaightarrowmathbbR is a strictly positive smooth function and langlecdot,cdotangle is the inner product induced by mathfrakg. The Euler-Lagrange equations of mathcalJho are called mean field type equations. Write mathcalH0=sigmainW1,2(Sigma,mathcalL):mathcalDsigma=0 and mathcal{H}_1=left{sigmain W^{1,2}(Sigma,mathcal{L}):int_Sigma langlesigma, au angle dv_g=0,,,forall au in mathcal{H}_0 ight}. Based on the variational method, we prove that mathcalJho has a constraint critical point on the space mathcalH1 for any ho<8pi; Based on blow-up analysis, we calculate the exact value of infsigmainmathcalH1mathcalJ8pi(sigma), provided that it is not achieved by any sigmainmathcalH1;
