Abstract: We provide a polyhedral characterization for the Jelonek set of a polynomial map f:KnoKn over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. This is the set of points in Kn at which f is not finite. We study the tropical analogue for the Jelonek set and prove a correspondence theorem relating classical and tropical polynomial maps. Our description allows to re-prove K-uniruleness of the Jelonek set and to compute its tropical hypersurface via polyhedral means. Furthermore, we show how to use our results to recover the face-lattice of the Newton polytope of the Jelonek set for a large family of complex polynomial maps.
