Abstract: We provide a polyhedral characterization for the Jelonek set of a polynomial map over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. This is the set of points in at which is not finite. We study the tropical analogue for the Jelonek set and prove a correspondence theorem relating classical and tropical polynomial maps. Our description allows to re-prove -uniruleness of the Jelonek set and to compute its tropical hypersurface via polyhedral means. Furthermore, we show how to use our results to recover the face-lattice of the Newton polytope of the Jelonek set for a large family of complex polynomial maps.
