Abstract: We completely characterize the finite covers from a proper stacky curve to a proper orbifold curve which preserve slope-stability of vector bundles under the pullback. Let fcolonmathfrakYlongrightarrow(X,P) be a cover i.e. a finite surjective generically separable morphism from a not necessarily smooth proper stacky curve to a proper orbifold curve. The cover f is said to be genuinely ramified if the induced map fcolonpi1(mathfrakY)longrightarrowpi1(X,P) on the '{e}tale fundamental groups is a surjection. We show that a cover f is genuinely ramified if and only if for any P-stable vector bundle E on (X,P), the pullback bundle fE on mathfrakY is mumathfrakY-stable. We provide other equivalent conditions for a cover to be genuinely ramified, generalizing earlier works in this direction for smooth curves.
