Abstract: We completely characterize the finite covers from a proper stacky curve to a proper orbifold curve which preserve slope-stability of vector bundles under the pullback. Let be a cover i.e. a finite surjective generically separable morphism from a not necessarily smooth proper stacky curve to a proper orbifold curve. The cover is said to be genuinely ramified if the induced map on the '{e}tale fundamental groups is a surjection. We show that a cover is genuinely ramified if and only if for any -stable vector bundle on , the pullback bundle on is -stable. We provide other equivalent conditions for a cover to be genuinely ramified, generalizing earlier works in this direction for smooth curves.
