Abstract: Let Sm=x02+x12+cdots+xm2=1 and P=x0=x1=0capSm. Suppose that f is a self--map of Sm such that f1(P)=P and |mathrmdeg(f|P)|<|mathrmdeg(f)|. Then, the number of fixed points of fn grows at least exponentially with base |d|>1, where d=mathrmdeg(f)/mathrmdeg(f|P)inmathbbZ.
