Abstract: We compute the Iwasawa invariants of Mazur-Tate elements for cuspidal newforms with in terms of the Iwasawa invariants of the plus/minus parts of the -adic -function. This is done by constructing lifts of Mazur-Tate elements to the full Iwasawa algebra and studying the behavior of Iwasawa invariants under projection to layer . Our results provide a method for computing the signed Iwasawa invariants attached to newforms with , and we produce tables of such invariants for many higher weight modular forms. Corollaries include a relation between the Iwasawa invariants attached to certain -congruent pairs of modular forms of weights 2 and , and a description of the -adic valuation of critical -values for modular forms with .
