Abstract: We show that for a typical high rank arithmetic lattice

G a m m a

, there exist finite index subgroups

G a m m a_{1}

and

G a m m a_{2}

such that

G a m m a_{1} o t s i m e q G a m m a_{2}

while

w i d e h a t G a m m a_{1} s i m e q w i d e h a t G a m m a_{2}

. But there are exceptions to that rule.
