Wreath-like products of groups and their von Neumann algebras II: Outer automorphisms

Abstract: For a wide class of groups naturally associated with group theoretic Dehn fillings, we confirm V.F.R. Jones' conjecture that $Out(extL(G))congChar(G)timesOut(G)$ for any ICC Kazhdan group $G$. As an application, we show that for every countable group $Q$, there exists an ICC group $G$ with property (T) such that $Out(extL(G))congQ$. This can be viewed as a converse of the result of A. Connes stating that $Out(extL(G))$ is countable whenever $G$ is ICC and has property (T).
