On pairs of $r$-primitive and $k$-normal elements with prescribed traces over finite fields

Abstract: Given mathbbFqn, a field with qn elements, where q is a prime power, n is positive integer. For rinmathbbN, kinmathbbNcup0, an element epsiloninmathbbFqn is said to be r-primitive if its multiplicative order is fracqn−1r and it is referred to as k-normal if the greatest common divisor of the polynomial sumi=0n−1epsilonqixn−1−i with xn−1 has degree k in mathbbFqn[x]. In this article, for r1,r2,m1,m2inmathbbN, k1,k2inmathbbNcup0, a rational function F=fracF1F2 in mathbbFq[x] with deg(Fi) leqmi; i=1,2, satisfying some conditions, and a,binmathbbFq, we construct a sufficient condition on (q,n) which guarantees the existence of an r1-primitive, k1-normal element epsiloninmathbbFqn such that F(epsilon) is r2-primitive, k2-normal with operatornameTrmathbbFqn/mathbbFq(epsilon)=a and operatornameTrmathbbFqn/mathbbFq(epsilon−1)=b. Further, for m1=10,m2=11, we demonstrate an example showing the existence of 3-primitive, 2-normal element epsilon in mathbbFqn such that F(epsilon) is 2-primitive, 1-normal with operatornameTrmathbbFqn/mathbbFq(epsilon)=a and operatornameTrmathbbFqn/mathbbFq(epsilon−1) =b for any prescribed a,binmathbbFq except from possible 10 values of (q,n) in field of characteristics 13.
