Abstract: We study the problem of finding the value of p and the summability index delta for which the Bochner-Riesz operator Stdeltaf(x):=(1+t2Delta)+deltaf(x) converges to f(x) almost everywhere for all finLp(mathbbRd) in the range 2lepleinfty. Although the convolution kernel Ktdelta of Stdelta is not in Lp if deltaledelta(d,p):=max(0,1/2+d,|1/21/p|), Stdeltaf can be defined for some finLp in such a case by interpreting the convolution Ktdeltaastf as an improper integral. Using this alternative definition, we prove that the almost everywhere convergence holds only if deltagedelta(d,p).
