Abstract: We study the modularity of the function w(au)=X(au)X(3au), where X(au) is the continued fraction of order six introduced by Vasuki, Bhaskar and Sharath (2010). The function w(au) is an analogue of Ramanujan's function k(au)=r(au)r(2au)2, where r(au) is the Rogers-Ramanujan continued fraction. We prove that w(au) is an eta-quotient that generates the field of all modular functions on the congruence subgroup Gamma0(18), and express X(au) and X(3au) in terms of w(au). We also show that there is a modular equation for w(au) of any level, and provide explicitly the modular equations of level p for primes pleq13. We finally show that w(fracau3) generates the ray class field K(6) over an imaginary quadratic field K modulo 6 for some suitable auinK.
