Abstract: Given a strictly increasing, continuous function vartheta:R+oR+, based on the cost functional intXimesXvartheta(d(x,y)),dq(x,y), we define the Lvartheta-Wasserstein distance Wvartheta(mu,u) between probability measures mu,u on some metric space (X,d). The function vartheta will be assumed to admit a representation vartheta=phicircpsi as a composition of a convex and a concave function phi and psi, resp. Besides convex functions and concave functions this includes all mathcalC2 functions. For such functions vartheta we extend the concept of Orlicz spaces, defining the metric space Lvartheta(X,m) of measurable functions f:XoR such that, for instance, d_vartheta(f,g)le1quadLongleftrightarrowquad int_Xvartheta(|f(x)-g(x)|),dmu(x)le1.
