Character formula for Weil representations in terms of Frobenius traces

Abstract: Ramified l-adic local Galois representations tend to be unwelcome. We give an explicit character formula which reconstructs such a representation from its Frobenius traces over extensions where it is unramified. We also record some consequences for etale cohomology of abelian varieties and other l-adic representations.
