A rigidity theorem for asymptotically flat static manifolds and its applications (scientific article from arXiv)

Abstract: In this paper, we study the Minkowski-type inequality for asymptotically flat static manifolds with boundary that was established by McCormick. We show that equality is achieved only on coordinate spheres in the Schwarzschild manifold when the boundary is CMC or equipotential. Using this fact, we confirm global uniqueness of suitably-defined static metric extensions for the Bartnik data induced by Schwarzschild coordinate spheres when 3leqnleq7. We also prove additional static uniqueness theorems via this rigidity, including a new uniqueness theorem for photon surfaces when n=3, and a new geometric inequality for the level sets of bounded static potentials.
