The groups of real genus \(\rho\leq 16\).

Given a finite group \(G\), the `real genus' \(\rho(G)\) is the minimum algebraic genus of any compact bordered Klein surface on which \(G\) acts. The groups with real genus \(0\leq\rho(G)\leq 5\) have been classified by the author [\textit{C. L. May}, Rocky Mt. J. Math. 23, No. 2, 707-724 (1993; Zbl 0795.30039); Mich. Math. J. 39, No. 2, 219-228 (1992; Zbl 0768.30030); Houston J. Math. 20, No. 3, 393-408 (1994; Zbl 0810.30036)], and the groups with real genus \(6\), \(7\) and \(8\) have been classified by \textit{G. Gromadzki} and \textit{B. Mockiewicz}, [Houston J. Math. 28, No. 4, 691-699 (2002; Zbl 1021.30048)]. In the present paper, the author classifies the groups of real genus \(\rho\) for all values of \(\rho\) such that \(9\leq\rho\leq 16\), \(\rho\neq 12\), and also for the remaining even values such that \(\rho\leq 24\). Also, the author determines the real genus of each group \(G\) with \(32\leq|G|\leq 48\) and obtains some general results about the partial presentations that groups acting on bordered surfaces must have.
