The (H,n) and the (A,n)-methods are defined. The methods (H,n) and (A,n) are equivalent and (C,1)-summability implies (H,n)-summability to the same limit for every \(n\in N_ 0\). The (A,n)-summability has already been studied by the author for the orthonormal series [Demonstr. Math. 8, 919-925 (1980; Zbl 0477.40009)]. The (H,n) and (A,n)-methods are applied to the approximation of functions by trigonometric series and particular estimates are given for the approximation in the \(L^ p\)-norm. The first note ends with an application to the Laplace equation. In the second note these methods are generalized to a family, whose elements depend on a parameter \(p\in R\). At first the author studies the properties of these methods with respect to n and p and then he shows some properties of the (A,n,p)-means of the Fourier series of functions \(f\in C_{2\pi}^{2n+1}\).
