Abstract: For a Banach algebra with a bounded approximate identity, we investigate the -module homomorphisms of certain introverted subspaces of , and show that all -module homomorphisms of are normal if and only if is an ideal of . We obtain some characterizations of compactness and discreteness for a locally compact quantum group . Furthermore, in the co-amenable case we prove that the multiplier algebra of can be identified with As a consequence, we prove that is compact if and only if and ; which partially answer a problem raised by Volker Runde.
