Abstract: Let be a special homotopy G-algebra over a commutative unital ring such that both and are finitely generated -modules for all , and let be the cardinality of a minimal generating set for the -module Then the set is unbounded if and only if has two or more algebra generators. When is the simplicial cochain complex of a simply connected finite -complex there is a similar statement for the "Betti numbers" of the loop space This unifies existing proofs over a field of zero or positive characteristic.
