Abstract: Let be a prime power and . For , let be -linearized and . Assume that satisfies the equation , where is an -linearized polynomial. It is shown that satisfies a -linearized polynomial equation with coefficients in . This result provides an explanation for numerous permutation polynomials previously obtained through computer search.
