Abstract: Let mathcalG resp. M be a positive dimensional Lie group resp. connected complex manifold without boundary and V a finite dimensional Cinfty compact connected manifold, possibly with boundary. Fix a smoothness class mathcalF=Cinfty, H"older Ck,alpha or Sobolev Wk,p. The space mathcalF(V,mathcalG) resp. mathcalF(V,M) of all mathcalF maps VomathcalG resp. VoM is a Banach/Fr'echet Lie group resp. complex manifold. Let mathcalF0(V,mathcalG) resp. mathcalF0(V,M) be the component of mathcalF(V,mathcalG) resp. mathcalF(V,M) containing the identity resp. constants. A map f from a domain OmegasubsetmathcalF1(V,M) to mathcalF2(W,M) is called range decreasing if f(x)(W)subsetx(V), xinOmega. We prove that if dimmathbbRmathcalGge2, then any range decreasing group homomorphism f:mathcalF10(V,mathcalG)omathcalF2(W,mathcalG) is the pullback by a map phi:WoV. We also provide several sufficient conditions for a range decreasing holomorphic map Omega o mathcalF2(W,M) to be a pullback operator. Then we apply these results to study certain decomposition of holomorphic maps mathcalF1(V,N)supsetOmegaomathcalF2(W,M). In particular, we identify some classes of holomorphic maps mathcalF10(V,mathbbPn)omathcalF2(W,mathbbPm), including all automorphisms of mathcalF0(V,mathbbPn).
