Relative natural classes and relative injectivity.

From MaRDI portal

Let \(R\) be a ring with identity and \(\tau\) a hereditary torsion theory on the category of left \(R\)-modules. A nonempty class \(K\) of left \(R\)-modules closed under isomorphic copies, submodules, direct sums and injective hulls is called a natural class. The author is interested in relativizing the notion of a natural class to the torsion-theoretic framework. So he calls a class \(K\) a \(\tau\)-natural class if \(K\) is closed under \(\tau\)-dense submodules, direct sums, and \(\tau\)-injective hulls. Then, for a \(\tau\)-natural class \(K\), he studies connections between direct sums of \(\tau\)-injective modules in \(K\) and ascending chains of \(\tau\)-dense left ideals, and also connections between \(\tau\)-quasi-injective modules in \(K\) and ACC of \(\tau\)-dense left ideals of \(H_K(R)\), where \(H_K(R)\) means the set of left ideals \(I\) such that \(R/I\) is in \(K\). Finally, for a natural class \(K\), he shows that every \(\tau\)-injective module in \(K\) is injective if and only if every \(\tau\)-quasi-injective module in \(K\) is quasi-injective.
