Spacetime metric from linear electrodynamics

Abstract: The Maxwell equations are formulated on an arbitrary (1+3)-dimensional manifold. Then, imposing a (constrained) linear constitutive relation between electromagnetic field and excitation , we derive the metric of spacetime therefrom.
