The author proves an analogue of the Weyl law for zeros of the derivative of the Selberg zeta function, \(Z\left(s\right)\), for a cocompact subgroup \(\Gamma\) of \(\text{PSL}\left(2,\mathbb{C}\right)\) acting on hyperbolic three-dimensional space \(\mathbb{H}^3\). More precisely, he shows that \[ N_{1}\left(T\right)=\frac{\text{vol}\left(\Gamma\backslash\mathbb{H}^{3}\right)}{6\pi^{2}}T^{3}+O\left(T^{2}\right) \] where \(N_{1}\left(T\right)\) is the number of zeros of \(Z'\left(s\right)\) with imaginary part between \(0\) and \(T\). It turns out that the main term is the same for \(N_1\) as it is for \(N_0\) (i.e.~counting the zeros of \(Z\) itself), cf.~e.g.~\textit{J. Elstrodt, F. Grunewald} and \textit{J. Mennicke} [Groups acting on hyperbolic space. Harmonic analysis and number theory. Springer Monographs in Mathematics. Berlin: Springer (1998; Zbl 0888.11001), p. 215] and it would be interesting to see how the lower order terms compare. The proof of the asymptotic formula for \(N_{1}\left(T\right)\) uses techniques similar to those of \textit{W. Luo} [Am. J. Math. 127, No. 5, 1141--1151 (2005; Zbl 1109.11040)] (who treated the analogous problem for the two-dimensional hyperbolic space) and is quite technical, involving a series of integral estimates. The zeros of the derivative of \(Z_{\Gamma}\left(s\right)\) are mainly studied in order to obtain information about multiplicities of the zeros of \(Z_{\Gamma}\left(s\right)\) itself. Of particular interest are the zeros on the critical line. These correspond to discrete eigenvalues of the Laplace-Beltrami operator on \(\Gamma\backslash\mathbb{H}^{3}\). Unfortunately, as remarked by the author in paragraph 5, one can not obtain a good bound of the multiplicities from the results in the paper, although one can at least conclude that most of the zeros of \(Z'\left(s\right)\) are close to the critical line (\(\text{Re}\, s=1\)) in the following sense. For any \(\varepsilon>0,\) let \(N^{+}\left(1+\epsilon,T\right)\) denote the number of zeros \(\rho=\beta+i\gamma\) of \(Z'\left(s\right)\) with \(\beta\geq1+\varepsilon\) and \(0<\gamma\leq T\) then (Corollary 5.3): \[ N^{+}\left(1+\varepsilon,T\right)\ll\frac{T^{2}}{\varepsilon}\ll\frac{N_{1}\left(T\right)}{\varepsilon T} \] and (Corollary 5.3) \[ \lim_{T\rightarrow\infty}\frac{\#\left\{ \rho\mid 1\leq\beta<1+\varepsilon,\,0<\gamma\leq T\right\} }{N_{1}\left(T\right)}=1. \]
