Symmetric cubic polynomials

Abstract: We describe a model

m a t h c a l M_{3}^{c o m b}

for the boundary of the connectedness locus

m a t h c a l M_{3}^{s y}

of the parameter space of cubic symmetric polynomials

p_{c} (z) = z^{3} - 3 c^{2} z

. We show that there exists a monotone continuous function

p i : p a r t i a l m a t h c a l M_{c}^{s y} o m a t h c a l M_{3}^{c o m b}

which is a homeomorphism if

m a t h c a l M_{3}^{s y}

is locally connected.
