Variation of the dyadic maximal function

From MaRDI portal

Abstract: We prove that for the dyadic maximal operator mathrmM and every locally integrable function finLmathrmloc1(mathbbRd) with bounded variation, also mathrmMf is locally integrable and mathopmathrmvarmathrmMfleqCdmathopmathrmvarf for any dimension dgeq1. It means that if finLmathrmloc1(mathbbRd) is a function whose gradient is a finite measure then so is ablamathrmMf and |ablamathrmMf|L1(mathbbRd)leqCd|ablaf|L1(mathbbRd). We also prove this for the local dyadic maximal operator.
