Hilbert spaces with reproducing kernels (= (proper) functional Hilbert spaces, including de Branges-Rovnyak and other structured spaces) (46E22) Invariant subspaces of linear operators (47A15) Linear operators on special spaces (weighted shifts, operators on sequence spaces, etc.) (47B37) Banach algebras of continuous functions, function algebras (46J10)
Abstract: Interpretations of the Beurling-Lax-Halmos Theorem on invariant subspaces of the unilateral shift are explored using the language of Hilbert modules. Extensions and consequences are considered in both the one and multivariate cases with an emphasis on the classical Hardy, Bergman and Drury-Arveson spaces.
