    For holomorphic functions \(f\) on the unit disk \(\mathbb{D}\subset \mathbb{C}\) and \( 0 < p < \infty \), Green's formula gives the well-known Hardy-Stein identity \[ \int_{0}^{2\pi} |f(re^{i\theta})|^p \,\frac{d\theta}{2\pi} = |f(0)|^p + \frac{p^2}2\int_{|z| < r < 1} |f(z)|^{p-2}|f'(z)|^2 \log\frac{r}{|z|} \frac{dA(z)}{\pi}. \] Taking limits as \(r\to 1^-\) on both sides, this identity gives a characterization of the functions \(f\) in the Hardy space \(H^p(\mathbb{D})\). In this paper the authors obtain Hardy-Stein type identities for certain generalized Hardy spaces \(H^{\omega}_\alpha\) of holomorphic functions \(f\) on \(\mathbb{D}\) such that \(\sup_{0 < r < 1} \|f_r\|_{\omega,\alpha}<\infty\), where \[ \|f_r\|_{\omega,\alpha}=(1-r^2)^\alpha\int_{0}^{2\pi} \omega(|f(re^{i\theta})|)\,\frac{d\theta}{2\pi}. \] Here \(\alpha\) is a non-negative number and \(\omega:[0,\infty)\to[0,\infty)\) is a strictly increasing modulus function satisfying, among other assumptions, that \(\omega(|f|)\) is a subharmonic function for any holomorphic function \(f\) on \(\mathbb{D}\). In addition, the authors prove that \[ \frac{d \,\|f_r\|_{\omega,\alpha}}{dr} =o\bigl((1-r)^{-1}\bigr)\qquad \text{as \(\quad r\to 1^{-}\)}. \]
