Let \((X,0)\subset (\mathbb{C}^{n},0)\) be an isolated complete intersection singularity of dimension 2 and let \(f:(X,0)\rightarrow (\mathbb{C}^{2},0)\) be a holomorphic map germ with an isolated instability. Let \((X_{s})_{s\in D}\), where \(D\) is a neighbourhood of \(0\) in \(\mathbb{C}\), be a smoothing of \((X,0)\) and let \(f_{s}:(X_{s},0)\rightarrow (\mathbb{C}^{2},0)\) be a stabilization of \(f\) (i.e., the \(X_{s}\) are smooth, \(X_{0}=X\), \(f_{0}=f\) and the \(f_{s}\) are stable maps). In the case \((X,0)=(\mathbb{C}^{2},0)\) \textit{J. H. Rieger} [J. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 36, No. 1--2, 351--369 (1987; Zbl 0639.58007)] and \textit{T. Gaffney} and \textit{D. M. Q. Mond} [J. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 43, No. 1, 185--192 (1991; Zbl 0737.58007)] gave relations between some invariants of the above data: the number of cusps and double folds of \(f_{s}\), the Milnor numbers at \(0\) of the singular locus of \(f\) and its discriminant, and others. The authors generalize these relations to the general case when \((X,0)\subset (\mathbb{C} ^{n},0)\) is an isolated complete intersection singularity of dimension 2. As an application they give necessary and sufficient conditions for 1-parameter families \((X_{t},0)\) to be Whitney or Zariski equsingular (in the latter case for a generic linear projection). In the particular case that \((X,0)\) and \(f\) are both weighted homogeneous (with the same weights) they give explicit formulas for the invariants in terms of weights and degrees.
