Structures of Cartan groups of real simple Lie algebras (Q1175605): Difference between revisions

Let \(\mathfrak g\) be a real simple Lie algebra, \(\mathfrak h\) a Cartan subalgebra of \(\mathfrak g\). The group \(\widetilde W(\mathfrak h)\) consisting of the restrictions to \(\mathfrak h\) of all elements in \(\Aut\mathfrak g\) leaving \(\mathfrak h\) stable is called the Cartan group of \(\mathfrak g\) with respect to \(\mathfrak h\). The conjugacy classes of the Cartan subalgebras in \(\mathfrak g\) are determined in \textit{C.-H. Cheng} [Sci. Record, New. Ser. 3, 214--219, 220--224 (1959; Zbl 0087.25802)] and in \textit{M. Sugiura} [J. Math. Soc. Japan 11, 374--434 (1959; Zbl 0204.04201); ibid. 23, 379--383 (1971; Zbl 0215.09505)]. In this paper, for every Cartan subalgebra \(\mathfrak h\) up to conjugacy, the group \(\widetilde W(\mathfrak h)/W(\mathfrak h)\) is determined in detail for classical real simple Lie algebras \(\mathfrak g\) where \(W(\mathfrak h)\) is the Weyl group of \(\mathfrak g\) with respect to \(\mathfrak h\) which is considered by \textit{C.-H. Cheng} [Sci. Record, New. Ser. 3, 385--389 (1959; Zbl 0087.25901)] and by \textit{Z. Hou} and \textit{Z. Zhang} [Sci. Sin., Ser. A 28, 1251--1260 (1985; Zbl 0641.17005)].
