Let \(\Omega\) be a smooth, bounded domain in \(\mathbb{R}^d\), and let \(A\) be a selfadjoint operator on \(L^2(\Omega)\). The authors assume that \[ C_0^\infty (\Omega) \subset D:=D\bigl( |A|^{1/2} \bigr)\subset H^{m,2} (\Omega) \tag{1} \] holds for some \(m>0\), and that the spectrum \(\sigma_e(A)\) is bounded from below. They are interested in a nontrivial solution of (2) \(Au=f(x,u)\), where \(f(x,t)\) is a Carathéodory function. As an application the authors obtain nontrivial solutions for semilinear elliptic boundary value problems having resonance both at zero and at infinity, when the nonlinear term has asymptotic limits.
