This book is foremost written for those who want to apply the methods of multicriteria analysis. Starting from the main scientific results which are the foundation of the domain, the authors show the principle methods of multicriterion analysis, their advantages and their shortcomings. It should be accessible to all readers who have given some thought to decision problems; it is designed to be put into practice by managers and decision makers in the course of their daily professional life. In Chapter 1 some basic notions are presented. Basic principles and tools are presented in Chapter 2. The dominance and satisfaction are analyzed in Chapter 3. In Chapter 4 the authors present some weighting methods and associated problems. Ordinal multicriterion methods are presented in Chapter 5 and additive utility functions and associated methods are analyzed in Chapter 6. In Chapter 7 the authors describe and analyze a wide range of multicriterion decision methods gathered under the heading of outranking methods. In Chapter 8 other multicriterion methods are presented. Chapter 9 analyzes the link of the multicriterion decision to computer methodology. Chapter 10 is devoted to software tools for discrete multicriterion decision. In Chapter 11 the authors deal with problems and advantages of multicriterion decision in actual practice. This book incorporates material from lectures and research work carried out by the authors in the last twenty years in their respective universities.
