The author investigates identities and commutation relations in the free 3-graded Lie algebra \({\mathfrak g}(x,y)\) with two generators of respective degree \(-1\) and \(1\), and in its enveloping algebra. It is also shown that if the ground field \(K\) has characteristic 0, then \({\mathfrak g}(x,y)\) is a Kantor-Koecher-Tits algebra (canonically associated to a Jordan pair). The results can be applied to derive the classical commutation relations for elements in the universal enveloping algebra in \(\mathfrak{sl}_2(K)\).
