Behaviour of the extensible elastical solution (Q5955234): Difference between revisions

The authors use an expression for virtual work to derive the equilibrium equation of elastica with compressible axis (previously derived by Pflueger). Linear relation between Biot stress and nominal strain is assumed. The (known) fact that there are only finite number of buckling modes is recovered. Detailed analysis of bifurcation points leads to the main result of this paper: the possibility of subcritical bifurcation, and the existence of nonbifurcating (isolated) solutions.
