Here, the spectrum of vector \(p\)--Laplacian systems \((\psi_p(u'))'+ \lambda \psi_p(u)=0\) on \([0,T]\) with \(p>1\) and \(\psi_p: \mathbb{R}^N \to \mathbb{R}, u \mapsto |u|^{p-2}u\) with Dirichlet, Neumann and periodic boundary conditions is studied. It is shown that for the Dirichlet and Neumann case the eigenvalues for \(N=1\) and for \(N\geq 2\) coincide. This is not true for the periodic case where some first results on the set of eigenvalues are proved (the complete structure of this set is not yet known). In all three cases of boundary conditions variational principles for the first positive eigenvalue are given and generalized Poincaré or Wirtinger inequalities are proved. Together with a continuation theorem which was proved by the authors in another paper, existence results for periodic solutions to Liénard-type systems and to systems with growth order \(p-1\) are established.
