The author investigates a simple bifurcation found in the motion of a stick-slip oscillator, which represents a non-smooth dynamical system. By analogy with the fold bifurcation in smooth systems, the author shows that for the investigated bifurcation a positive Floquet multiplier passes through the unit circle. In accordance with the terminology in the literature, the author concludes that a discontinuous fold bifurcation has been found.
