\textit{P. A. Borodin} [Math. Notes 87, No. 4, 485--488 (2010); translation from Mat. Zametki 87, No. 4, 514--518 (2010; Zbl 1211.46005)] gave the first example of a Banach space which contains a finite subset without a Steiner point. Here, such examples are shown to exist in every non-reflexive Banach space, subject to renorming. The proof relies on the following lemma, of independent interest: if \(X\) is a non-reflexive Banach space and \(Y\) is an infinite-dimensional Banach space, then there is an operator \(T:X\to Y\) and a bounded sequence \(x_n\in X\), such that \(Tx_n\) converges to a point which is not in the range of \(T\).
