The Cauchy problem \[ u_{tt}-div_ x(a(x)\nabla_ xu)=f(u),\quad u(0,x)=u_ 0(x),\quad u_ t(0,x)=u_ 1(x), \] is considered where a(x) is a symmetric matrix such that \(0<(a(x)\xi,\xi)\leq \Lambda_ 0| \phi |^ 2,\) \(\Lambda_ 0>0\). It is proved that if the entries of the matrix are analytic in \(R^ n_ x\), f(u) is analytic in \(R^ n_ x\), \(u_ 0(x)\), \(u_ 1(x)\) are analytic in \(R^ n_ x\), then every solution, such that \(k\in C^ k([0,T]\times R^ n_ x)\) for some \(k>0.5n+1\), is analytic in \([0,T]\times R^ n_ x\).
