History repeats itself. In 1954 Rund modified the connection coefficients \(P^i_{jk}\) and obtained new connection coefficients \(P^{*i}_{jk}\). These, however, coincide with the \(\Gamma^{*i}_{jk}\) of the Cartan connection, as indicated by the reviewers Deicke-Süss [\textit{H. Rund}, On the analytical properties of curvature tensors in Finsler spaces, Math. Ann. 127, 82-104 (1954; Zbl 0055.40406)]. On the other hand, in 1948 S. S. Chern has introduced a remarkable connection [\textit{S. S. Chern}, Local equivalence and Euclidean connection in Finsler spaces, Sci. Rep. Nat. Tsing Hua Univ. A 5, 95-121 (1948), \textit{M. Anastasiei}, A historical remark on the connections of Chern and Rund, Contemp. Math. 196, 171-176 (1996; Zbl 0868.53050)]. In the present paper Chern formulated his connection in terms of the notion of a fibre bundle over the manifold SM of rays.
