This paper considers functions of the form \(f(z) = z^p + \sum_{k=1}^\infty a_{k+p} z^{k+p}\) which are analytic in the unit disk. A linear operator \(L_p(a,c)\) is defined as \(L_p(a,c)f(z) = z^p + \sum_{k=1}^\infty [(a)_k/(c)_k] a_{k+p} z^{k+p}\) where \((a)_k = a(a+1)\dots(a+k-1)\) is the usual Pochhammer notation. This operator generalizes the Ruscheweyh derivative operator. Several quite technical theorems are proved about the arguments of certain combinations of functions and these operators. For example, let \(f(z)\) and \(g(z)\) be functions of the class and denote \(L = L_p(a,c)\) and \(M = L_p(a+1,c)\). Then it is proved that if the values of \(Mg(z)/L(g(z)\) for \(z\) in the unit disk are contained in a disk in the right half plane containing \(z = 1\) and if \(|\arg\{(1-\lambda) (Lf(z)/Lg(z)) + \lambda(Mf(z)/Mg(z)) - \beta\}|<\pi\delta/2\) (with suitable retrictions on the parameters), then \(|\arg\{(Lf(z)/Lg(z)) - \beta\}|<\pi\eta/2\) where \(\eta\) is implicitly defined by a stated equation in terms of the assumed parameters. Various corollaries and other theorems of a similar type are proved.
