This is a handbook of statistical techniques meant for use by applied statisticians with limited mathematical background. It can serve as a reference book, as well as a text for learning methods of statistical analysis, for researchers in various disciplines. It is an improvement on the earlier (first) edition [for a review of the German original edition from 1968 see Zbl 0157.469] of the book with new insertions. The subject index has been enlarged and the references have been updated and expanded. The emphasis of the book is on practical application, giving a large number of worked-out numerical examples and exercises with solutions. The book contains an extensive bibliography and a large collection of mathematical and mathematical-statistical tables. The earlier chapters of the book deal with preliminary mathematics, statistical decision making processes, medical statistics, sequential analysis, bioassay, statistics in business and industry and operations research. The latter chapters deal with advanced material: analysis of association, correlation and regression, analysis of contingency tables and analysis of variance.
