The reviewer proved that a nonzero (von Neumann) regular right self- injective ring R is a prime ring if and only if R is indecomposable as a ring [Can. J. Math. 25, 829-839 (1973; Zbl 0229.16021), Proposition 3]. The authors prove that this result also holds for a nonzero regular ring R which is (right) self \(\pi\)-injective, meaning that whenever I and J are right ideals of R satisfying \(I\cap J=0,\) the projection \(I\oplus J\to I\) lifts to an endomorphism of \(R_ R\). (Alternatively, a regular ring is right self \(\pi\)-injective if and only if it is right continuous.)
