The author uses the stress energy tensor to show that any harmonic map \(\phi\) : \({\mathbb{R}}^ n\to M^ m\) (\(n\geq 3)\) of infinite but slowly diverging energy is constant. The divergence condition is \(\int| d\phi|^ 2/\psi (| x|)<\infty\), where \(\psi\) is a positive continuous functions satisfying \(\int^{\infty}_{a}dr/r\psi (r)=\infty\). There is a similar result with \({\mathbb{R}}^ n\) replaced by Minkowski space-time.
