This monograph analyzes some inverse problems for certain ordinary differential operators on the half-line and on a finite interval by the method of spectral mappings, which is termed by the author. The monograph contains three chapters, close to 300 references, but not an index. In Chapter 1, the inverse problem is studied for the Schrödinger operator \(-d^2/dx^2+q(x).\) In the method employed, in terms of the scattering data consisting of a set of infinite number of eigenvalues and the corresponding norming constants, an operator \(\tilde H(x)\) and a function \(\tilde \psi(x)\) are constructed. Then, the potential \(q\) and the boundary parameters are recovered from the solution to the so-called main equation \([I+\tilde H(x)]\psi(x)=\tilde \psi(x),\) where \(I\) is the identity operator. In Chapter 2, a similar inverse problem is analyzed to recover the boundary parameters and the coefficients \(p_ 0,\dots, p_{n-2}\) in the differential equation \(y^{(n)}+\sum_{j=0}^{n-2} p_ {j}(x)y^{(j)}=\lambda y,\) where \(\lambda\) is the spectral parameter and the integer \(n\) is \(3\) or larger. The main concentration in Chapter 3 is on the inverse problem of recovery of \(p\) and \(q\) in the differential equation \(y''+[k^ 2+ikp(x)+q(x)]y=0,\) where \(k\) is the spectral parameter.
