This paper deals with the regularity of a vectorial two-phase free boundary problem which can be seen as the coupling of the harmonic mapping problem and the area minimising problem. More specifically, the main result of the author is the following. If \(\Omega\) is a bounded domain in \(\mathbb{R}^n\) with \(n\geq 2\) and \(\Sigma \subseteq \mathbb{R}^m\) is a \(q\)-dimensional smooth manifold with \(0\leq q\leq m-1\), then the local minimisers of the energy functional \[ E_\Omega(u,A)\, =\, \int_\Omega |Du|^2\, +\, P_\Omega(A) \] over the class of competitors \((u,A) \in \mathcal{M}_{\Omega,\Sigma}\) are actually regular for small dimensions \(n\leq 7\). In the above, the class \(\mathcal{M}_{\Omega,\Sigma}\) consists of pairs of maps \(u \in W^{1,2}(\Omega, \mathbb{R}^m)\) and sets of finite perimeter \(A \subseteq \Omega\) such that the essential image of \(u\) satisfies the pointwise constraint \(u(A)\subseteq \Sigma \). Moreover, regularity is meant in the sense that \(u\) is locally Lipschitz continuous on \(\Omega\) and the boundary \(\partial A\) is smooth in \(\Omega\). The paper is very well written and technically builds on previous results of the author (lower density-mass estimates, Hölder regularity etc.), which it improves substantially.
