Several invariants from commutative algebra are used in algebraic geometry and conversely. This paper introduces in commutative algebra the notions of \(\Delta\)-genera and sectional genera which were already used by \textit{T. Fujita} and others in algebraic geometry. These genera are helpful in the study of Cohen Macaulay rings.
